Reading Momentum Scores: Breakout, Rising, Stable, and Cooling
What KeywordVelocity momentum badges mean and how they are calculated.
Momentum compares the current Google Trends volume snapshot to the previous cron reading for the same keyword and region. If volume jumped 25% or more, we label it Breakout. Smaller increases become Rising; drops of 15%+ become Cooling.
What each badge means
New means the topic just entered the feed. Stable means volume stayed within a normal band. These labels describe relative change, not absolute popularity — a Cooling celebrity story can still have huge volume.
Breakout is your “move now” signal for timely explainers. Rising is your “prep and publish soon” signal. Cooling is your “update existing pages or skip” signal unless you are chasing leftover long-tail demand.
Pair momentum with intent and headlines
A Breakout low-intent meme and a Breakout high-intent finance query need different responses. Always read the commercial tier and related news before allocating writer time.
Cross-border Breakouts deserve the front of the queue: demand is spreading across time zones and competition will arrive quickly.
Operational tips
Check the live board every few hours during your publishing window, not only once a day. Minute-level syncs catch moves that daily keyword tools miss.
When you share a spike socially, mention the momentum state (“Rising in the US right now”) so your audience understands urgency without needing the dashboard vocabulary.
